The simple answer. Just about anyone.

Although still stereotyped by some as something only strippers do, the stigma is slowly being broken and more and more people are trying out pole dancing as a form of exercise. One of the best things about it is that anyone and everyone is welcome to try it and you can start out as a complete beginner with no previous experience of dance. Check out my post on the 10 benefits of pole dancing here if you need any persuading.

All shapes and sizes.

Good quality poles that are correctly installed can support lots of weight and they are usually super tall so you can pretty much be any size to pole dance. This plus size pole dancer is a good example of someone who hasn’t let her size get in her way and she has seen great results with losing weight so far, as well as giving herself a huge boost in confidence…

All different ages

There are no age limits on who can pole dance providing your level of fitness can keep up with the class you’ve chosen. This absolutely amazing 70 year old lady shows that it’s never too late to learn and is such an inspiration…

As well as the older generation giving the pole a whirl, there has been an increase in children and teenagers learning pole dancing tricks. Of course, as can be expected, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding teaching children to pole dance but as can be seen by this incredible 9 year old Ukranian dancer it can absolutely be taught in a way that is suitable for younger learners…

It’s not really too different from children learning gymnastics and if the training is focused on pole tricks and conditioning rather than sexy routines, and there aren’t any overly revealing outfits then a lot of people are arguing that it is a great thing for young people to be involved with. It is such an amazing way to build strength and learn discipline, I just wish I had started doing it when I was younger.

Men

The most ridiculous assumption of them all is that men can’t pole dance! There are some incredible male pole dancers out there who are super strong and are showing the world that pole is not just for girls. Dimitry Politov, the winner of Battle of the Pole 2015 showed off with a very impressive and moving routine which showed off his strength and stamina…

And even older men are giving the sport a try too. This is a photographer from Queensland, Australia who at 55 doesn’t look like your average poler but isn’t letting that stop him from enjoying showing off his moves

So that just proves there is no excuse and anyone can give pole dancing for fitness a go. If you are considering trying pole dancing for the first time and need more information, check out my page on learning how to pole dance for fitness.

If you have any other stories of inspiring people who prove that anyone can pole dance I’d love to hear about them.

Nice post and I’m a dancer so I was interested! I didn’t know much about pole dancing but I have seen people pole dance on Talent shows on TV and its anyone! I dance more like MJ style but one of my old friends used to pole dance and she loved it. I would share this with site with her, but she doesn’t have social media and I haven’t seen her in over 2 years! But, I thought your article was great and I will recommend it to anyone who pole dances that I know!

haha well I think it’s safe to say, I’ve never pole danced before. Though, i can definitely see how it would be a strong exercise routine. The amount of control you would need in your abs, arms, legs, and back seem to be huge. Kudos to anyone who is able to master this difficult skill. Haha I know I’d fall off very quick

Hahahahah you made me laugh with the head picture, I will ask my father to try to do the same 🙂
My wife has a class in her Jim of pole dance, she is almost one year doing that, and her body changed for the best. She loses a 5Kg and builds muscles mass in her arms, legs, and every place that I could think of.
Every word you wrote on this page is true.
And I’m afraid to admit that I also tried it, and loved it.
    Everybody need to try it.
    Thanks.

Ha I’m glad you like it, and you should, that man just shows that literally everyone can try it! I’m so glad to hear that your wife has taken it up and that you’ve tried it and loved it too, thank you so much for your comment.
